Sugar is not allowed because, as Dr. Pericone says it causes inflammation that destroys our bodies and attaches to collagen, which results in stiff, inflexible, sagging skin.

But there is not yet entirely known if the inflammation causes aging or diseases. It has been demonstrated a relationship between inflammation and diseases, but it is not known if the inflammation is a cause or a result, nor is there evidence that inflammation causes wrinkles. The only sure cause that produces wrinkles is smoke cigarettes and sun light.

This diet consists in three meals, rich in protein, and two snacks, while sugar is forbidden. Nutrient supplements are necessary. Vitamins like A, B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B12, or folate, biotin, calcium, chromium, magnesium, selenium, acetyl l-carnitine, coenzyme Q10, l-glutamine, omega-3 fatty acids, grape seed extract, gamma linoleic acid have to be taken. This diet is strict, costly, and largely unproven, as there aren’t sufficiently scientifically results published. Also you have to be a fish eater, because this diet is based upon fish consummation.

Pericone is updating an old theory about taking lots of vitamins, because the lack of it causes aging. He also recommends spring water not tap water, saying that spring water helps flushing the toxins out of the organism. This is also an argument that is not proven. It is known that tap water is microbiologically tested so it can be delivered to the peoples, but spring water can sometimes have a higher microbe level, and there is no difference in flushing out the toxins from the body between spring water and tap water.
