The M.D. Anderson Cancer Center is
recruiting smokers to test Celebrex, a similar drug that has
linked to heart attacks
"Researchers
say patients who agree to take Pfizer Inc.'s Celebrex to gauge
whether it prevents lung damage will be monitored for
cardiovascular changes and aggressively treated if
necessary," according to an AP
article filed by Yahoo.com. Because
of the heart attacks some attribute to VIOXX, the studies on
Celebrex were suspended. Before the suspension; however,
Celebrex showed signs of blocking enzymes that contribute to
lung cancer.
